Complete marine aquarium with under cabinet filter system

Complete seawater tanks, including cabinet, filter tank, return pump, overflow and pipework and, if necessary, additional technical equipment such as lighting, skimmers or flow pumps, are offered by various manufacturers.
Delivery is virtually as a kit, on a pallet free to the kerbside.

We are happy to advise you in advance on the various tanks and designs available and will prepare a design proposal with all the technology, accessories, furnishings and animal stocking. To ensure that nothing goes wrong, we carry out the installation and start-up together with the aquarist, provide comprehensive instructions for further care and are of course available for questions and tips during the ‘running-in’ period.

“It was clear to me that I would need professional help in planning and building my first saltwater aquarium. I did a lot of research beforehand and started looking for a suitable mentor. My search ended with Stephan and we started planning in the summer of 2023. Winter came and we started the pool together at the beginning of November. The pool has now been running for almost 3 months. I’m absolutely thrilled with how well it’s going and I’m very grateful that Stephan was always at my side. I can only recommend Stephan’s support to anyone who wants to have their own reef at home!

Saltwater aquarium without under cabinet filter

Small to medium saltwater aquariums up to approximately 300 litres can be operated without an undergravel filter. In this case, all you need to do is place the internal surface-suction filter or an internal skimmer in the tank. The advantage is lower initial costs and lower electricity costs as there is no need for a feed pump running 24 hours a day. There is also space in the cabinet for top-up water, any balling solutions and various aquarium equipment.
A saltwater aquarium without a cabinet filter keeps things simple and costs as low as possible. However, it is still possible to keep delicate stony corals and a wide range of reef life.

This EFS aquarium combination with 240L aquarium and white cabinet was installed in March 2023.
First the reef ceramic was installed, then the aquarium-grown live rock, the (partly settled) sand and the (partly settled) salt water were introduced.
The first inhabitants moved in on the very first day, namely snails, hermit crabs and very robust corals.

After a few weeks they were joined by various corals, Acropora, Montipora, Porites, Stylophora, Seriatopora, Alveopora, Goniopora, Fimbriaphyllia, Caulastrea, Galaxea, Turbinaria, Leptstrea, Echinopora, Pavona, Isis, Tubipora, Terrazoanthus, as well as brittle stars, sea urchins, shrimps, other snails and hermit crabs, a burrowing sand starfish and an Entacmaea copper anemone.
Two anemonefish, a damselfish, a dwarf perch and a goby have been added.

“As I was a complete beginner when it came to aquariums, I realised that I needed some help when it came to planning my saltwater tank.
After some research I came across GREEN CORALS. And what can I say? I am thrilled!

From planning to completion, everything went really well. The different options were explained to me and I chose a tank without a filter basin (internal filter and internal skimmer).

You quickly realise that you are dealing with a man who knows his stuff. Stephan took his time, answered my questions in detail and explained everything (from testing the water to mixing the salt) so that nothing could go wrong. The tank has now been in place for about a year and is running very well. We are still in very close contact. Acropora, Fimbriaphyllia, Tubipora – hard and soft corals are all doing very well.

After a hard day’s work, the tank always invites you to relax and enjoy.
I am very grateful that everything went so well and can only recommend Green CORALS.
I would like to thank the whole team for their great support.”

Customised 1300 L coral reef aquarium

We also design and build bespoke saltwater systems of any size and design, with matching aquarium technology to suit the client’s requirements.

A detailed design proposal is prepared in close consultation with the client. Once the order is placed, the materials are ordered and the system is commissioned:

  • Installation of all the technology and interior fittings and filling of the tank with seawater.
  • Commissioning of the aquarium technology and water circulation.
  • “Inoculation” with aquarium-grown live rock, revitalised gravel and running-in water.
  • Introduction of hardy invertebrates, corals and macroalgae on the first day.
  • Complete the initial stocking after a few weeks with corals, invertebrates and fish.

In 2013, we designed and built a coral cultivation facility for GEOMAR in Kiel.
This ambitious facility is needed for several ongoing and future research projects that require the cultivation of hard corals under controlled laboratory conditions. Since then, the two tanks have made excellent progress, scientific experiments with the corals have been successfully carried out and the first publications for peer-reviewed journals have been written.

From freshwater to salt – converting former freshwater aquariums

The simplest and cheapest way to get started with marine aquariums is to simply convert a former freshwater aquarium by choosing lighting and equipment suitable for marine water.

An internal filter for the surface water is essential. You should also choose a light suitable for marine aquariums, possibly with a blue tint. An automatic replenishment system for evaporated water is also advisable.

As far as animals are concerned, you should stick to hardy species such as hermit crabs, snake starfish, snails, shrimps and easy-care soft corals, crust anemones, disc anemones and robust hard corals.
Add small, peaceful fish, ideally juveniles, such as gobies, reef or dwarf perches.

Minimalist 50-litre nano tank on “Die Tauchprofis”

The 50 litre nano tank ran with changing stock in the shop of “Die Tauchprofis” from March 2015 to September 2023. The stock consisted of very robust soft corals, macro algae, snails, hermit crabs, shrimps, an anemone and 2 anemone fish.

When the diving professionals moved to a larger shop, they moved into a new 270-litre tank, a former freshwater aquarium.

This JUWEL tank has a curved front glass, cover and cabinet.
Instead of the two T5 tubes, 3 Aquarium Systems LED bars with a blue spectrum have been installed in the cover box. The tank contains a TUNZE internal filter, heater and a flow pump.

The stocking consists of

  • Sturdy soft and hard corals: e.g. Anthelia, Xenia, Sarcophyton, Tubipora, Montipora, Pavona.
    Anemones: Entacmaea, Phymanthus.
  • Invertebrates: Hermit crabs, brittle stars, various snails.
  • Macroalgae: Cladophora and Caulerpa.
  • Fish only: damselfish, dwarf perch, gobies.

“Nano reef pro” – a small but fine reef aquarium

This small but beautiful nano tank of approximately 60 litres, stocked with 16 different species of corals, mainly robust stony corals, was installed in May 2015 and ran stably for several years until it was sold.
Such a nano tank with any stocking – we are happy to advise! – can also be pre-ordered and after a few weeks you can simply take it home as is. There it will continue to develop with the same care. Of course, there is also an optional accessory pack with everything you need for continued successful care.

NOTE: Due to their small volume, nano aquariums are less stable than larger aquariums and can become unbalanced more easily.
Regular maintenance and water changes are therefore essential. When stocking calcifying hard corals, particular attention should be paid to carbonate hardness and calcium levels. It is very practical if you also have a larger tank – then you can change 90% of the water in the larger tank regularly, e.g. once a week, while the larger tank receives freshly prepared seawater as a replacement.
